A lancet, such as the AccuChek SafeTPro Uno is a medical device that contains a small needle and are fitted with a spring for use. Lancets are usually disposable or may come in a device that can hold multiple disposable lancets. They are suitable to use for the blood sample needed to obtain a small amount of capillary blood on the tip of the fingers for various fingerprick tests for glucose, ketone, cholesterol etc..
Because lancets contain a needle, it must be appropriately disposed off after each use. Here are some tips for correct disposal methods:
Never dispose lancets or other sharp items like syringes into the regular trash.
If possible, seek advise from your healthcare provider on the possibilities of obtaining a sharps bin for personal use.
Alternatively, prepare a strong, puncture-resistant plastic bag or a sealable disposable container like a used can to store the used lancets.
It is advised to use a non-transparent container to prevent children from opening the container in curiosity.
