Dextrophan syrup is a centrally acting antitussive that inhibits cough impulse transmission by decreasing the sensitivity of cough receptors and stimulating the sigma receptors in the medullary cough centre.
As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.
Please visit the doctor if you experience these overdosage symptoms:
Asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or other conditions where persistent or chronic cough occurs.
Concomitant use or within 14 days of monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) therapy.
Children <12 years.
This medication has an additive CNS effect when used with antihistamines, psychotropics and other CNS depressants.
Increased toxic effect when used with potent CYP2D6 enzyme inhibitors (e.g. fluoxetine, paroxetine, quinidine, terbinafine).

Patient with history of drug abuse.Children.Treatment with a cough medicine in children (especially under 12 years old) should be considered carefully due to potential risks and limited evidence on efficacy.
