Overview

Diaper rash is a common type of dermatitis among babies. It is usually due to wet or infrequent change of diapers. It appears as bright red patches on the baby's bottom.

Young age (<2 years), Diarrhea, Underlying dermatologic disorder, Infrequent diaper changes

Investigation Techniques

Potassium hydroxide test of skin scraping, Bacterial culture of skin, Fungal culture of skin, CBC, Serum zinc level

Treatment and Prevention

A mild hydrocortisone (steroid) cream, An antifungal cream if your baby has a fungal infection, Topical or oral antibiotics if your baby has a bacterial infection
