Eye Examination

Overview

Eye examination is one of the most important examination to screen for any damages in the eye. A complete eye examination actually includes cranial nerve II, III, IV, VI examination as well. As other examinations, eye examination begins with inspection of the head posture, position of eyelids, inspect for any proptosis, lid lag. Observe the periorbital appearance, lacrimal apparatus, eyelid margin, conjunctive, sclera and cornea. Next is to examine the pupil by performing the visual acquity test.followed by Amsler grid test for macular function examination. Then perform visual field examination and also check for any presence of squint / nystagmus. Perform a direct and indirect light reflex to check the pupil and then continue the examination with color vision test using the Ishihara test plates. After that, proceed to the opthalmoscopy examination and observe for any abnormalities of the cornea, lens, vitreous, and optic disc. Complete the eye examination by doing few relevant investigations such as blood test and radiological investigations.
