Eye Injury

Overview

Eye injuries or also known as ocular injuries can be very severe. This condition may cause acquire uniocular blindness. It is more common among males compared to females. The main cause for eye injury is accidents. Eye injury can be divided into penetrating injury, blunt injury, and chemical injury. The most common type of eye injury is chemical injury. It is important to bring the patient to the nearest healthcare facilities as fast as possible. This is because the more time taken to get a treatment is equal to a higher risk of permanent vision loss. Eye injury due to an alkaline chemicals are hundred times more dangerous than acidic chemicals. The treatment is irrigation of the eye to neutralize the pH. A generous amount of solution use for irrigation is the most important element in treating this condition. For injuries due to foreign bodies, the treatment is by removing the foreign body. Other than that, antibiotics can be given if needed, pain-relieving medication to ease the pain and also anti-tetanus to complete the treatment protocol.
