Flatulence

Overview

Flatulence is a phenomenon which gas builds up in the gut causing one to feel bloated and subsequently releasing of gas or farting. If the gas tension builds up excessively, one may experience abdominal discomfort. Flatulence is very common, but if it gets too frequent, it can be due to excessive swallowing of air during eating or drinking, eat too much food which may breakdown and release certain gases. If the aforementioned causes did not occur and excessive flatulence maintained for a period of time, it could be due to medical conditions such as constipation, gastroenteritis, food intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes mellitus, celiac disease or inflammatory bowel syndrome. One can relief this condition by controlling their own diet, reducing the amount of carbohydrate that often causes flatulence. Besides that, proper eating habit such as chewing the food thoroughly and properly with mouth closed so that no excessive air will be swallowed along. There are some medications which can help to relieve flatulence by controlling the underlying causes.
