Gingivitis

Overview

Gingivitis is a condition of inflammation of the gum. This is usually caused by poor oral hygiene where plaque formation irritates the gum. This condition can be prevented by good oral care and frequent visit to the dentist for scaling or plaque removal.

Signs and Symptoms

Bleeding gum, Bad breath, Pain when eating or chewing, Swollen gum, Red & tender gum

Common Causes

Formation of plaque on the teeth, Harden plaque form into calculus, Calculus and plaque irritate the gum and cause inflammation

Risk Factors

Poor dental and oral care, Dry mouth, Poor nutrition such as lack of Vitamin C, Hormonal changes, Smoking or chewing tobacco
