Overview

Immunoglobulins Deficiency is the lack of immunoglobulins (Ig) in the body. Immunoglobulins are antibodies made by B cells and plasma cells which help to fight and kill bacteria in the body. There are mainly 5 types of immunoglobulin which are IgA, IgG, IgM and IgE and IgD.

Signs and Symptoms

Frequent infections: Throat infections, Respiratory infections, Eye infections, Ear infections, Sinus infections, Gastrointestinal infections

Common Causes

Genetic factors, Molecular changes, Certain medications

Risk Factors

Aging, Smoking, Family history of immunoglobulin deficiency, Presence of other immunodeficiency syndromes, Certain medications, Radiation, Having thymoma

Investigation Techniques

Full blood count, Serum immunoglobulin levels

Treatment and Prevention

Long course of antibiotics, Intravenous immunoglobulin replacement therapy, Vaccination
