Post Operative Eye Pain And Inflammation

Overview

Post operative eye pain and inflammation are complications that commonly occur after eye surgery. The postoperative eye pain and inflammation may be described as a sharp pain, throbbing pain, burning sensation in the eye or a dull aching pain surrounding the eyes. Other than pain and inflammation of the eye, symptoms that may be associated with it are redness in the eye, swollen eyelids, blurring of vision and sensation of foreign body in the eye. Causes and factors which lead to post-operative eye pain and inflammation are poor surgical techniques during eye surgery, injury to the eye during eye surgery, a bacterial infection of the eye after the surgery, dry eyes after surgery or poor care of the eyes after surgery. Other than that, it can also be due to corneal abrasion during general anesthesia. It can be diagnosed with an eye examination, fundoscopy, and slit-lamp examination and subsequently treated depending on the cause.
