Overview

Precancerous Genital Lesions can occur in the cervix, vulvar and vagina. This premalignant condition is known as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) and vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) respectively.

Signs and Symptoms

Pain, Pruritus, Dyspareunia, Post coital bleeding, Vaginal discharge

Common Causes

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection

Risk Factors

Smoking, Increased parity, Early age of intercourse, Unprotective sex, Oral contraceptive pills, Immunocompromised

Investigation Techniques

Vaginal examination, Pap smear, Colposcopy, Biopsy and histopathology

Treatment and Prevention

Ablative therapy, Local excision, Laser therapy, Topical estrogen cream, Hysterectomy, HPV vaccination, Quit smoking, Protective sex
