Prevention Of Diarrhoea Due To Rotavirus

Overview

Rotavirus is a type of virus that is contagious and causes diarrhoea. It commonly affects the gastrointestinal system leading to gastroenteritis. Rotavirus is a round-shaped virus that looks like a wheel, hence the name rota. Rotavirus affects the enteric nervous system leading to malabsorption and excessive secretion of fluid in the intestines that causes diarrhoea. Diarrhoea due to rotavirus is watery and sometimes it may also contain blood or pus. Other symptoms of rotavirus include abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, and lethargy. Diarrhoea due to rotavirus can lead to complications such as dehydration which can be life-threatening if not treated. Hence, the prevention of diarrhoea due to rotavirus is important.
