Prevention Of Hepatitis B Infection

Overview

Hepatitis B virus is spread through infected blood or other body fluids. This can be prevented with 3 injections of the hepatitis B vaccine. Vaccination is especially recommended for those living with an infected person. Other ways to prevent the disease include having protected sex, avoiding the use of illicit drugs especially intravenous drugs, and being cautious about tattooing and body piercing. Sterile needles should always be used for tattoo and body piercing. Next, do not share personal items such as toothbrush, nail clipper and razor. Also, avoid direct contact with any blood or body fluids, particularly when you have a cut or wound. Always use gloves when handling blood or body fluids.
