Prostatitis

Overview

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It is commonly due to infection by bacteria such as S. faecalis, E. coli and Chlamydia trichomoniasis.

Signs and Symptoms

Pain during ejaculation, Back pain, Difficulty urinating, Fever, Fatigue, Blood in semen, Swollen prostate felt during prostate exam

Common Causes

Unprotected multiple sexual intercourses, Hygiene, Prostate intervention such as during TURP procedure, Recent urinary tract infection that is not fully resolved

Risk Factors

Unprotected multiple sexual intercourses, Hygiene, Prostate intervention such as during TURP procedure, Recent urinary tract infection that is not fully resolved

Investigation Techniques

Full blood count, Urinary dip test, Urinary microscopy and culture test, C-reactive protein

Treatment and Prevention

Pain medication, Antibiotics, Drinking plenty of clear water, Use protection during sexual intercourse, Keep hygiene in the private area
