Overview

Stroke is a life-threatening medical condition. Risk factors include hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, excessive drinking, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is crucial to prevent stroke. Start by consuming wholegrain- based food, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Limit your intake of food high in saturated fats, trans fat, salt, and sugar. You should also exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes 5 times a week, be it yoga, meditation or even slow walks in the park greatly reduces your risk of having a stroke. The goal is to maintain your BMI at <25. Most importantly, quit smoking and avoid excessive alcohol intake. To ensure progress, do attend medical check-ups annually to get your blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol levels checked regularly.
