Overview

Strongyloidiasis is a parasitic infection caused by roundworms or nematode named Strongyloides stercoralis. Parasite brings about ill effects to human health as it obtain its micro- and macronutrients from the human body.

Signs and Symptoms

Upper abdominal burning or pain, Diarrhea or alternating diarrhea and constipation, Cough, Rash, Red hives near the anus, Vomiting, Weight loss

Common Causes

Caused by the parasitic roundworm S. stercoralis

Risk Factors

Rural areas, Areas with unsanitary living conditions, Areas without adequate public health services, Job involves regular contact with soil, Weakened immune system

Investigation Techniques

Duodenal aspiration, Sputum culture, Stool sample for ova and parasites, Complete blood count, Blood antigen test

Treatment and Prevention

Antiparasitic medication (Ivermectin), Thiabendazole
