Product Overview

Introduction of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet 30s

Coveram 5/5mg Tablet is a combination prescription medication belonging to the antihypertensive drug class, containing two active ingredients — Perindopril Arginine 5mg and Amlodipine 5mg — that work together in a single convenient tablet. If you have been prescribed this medicine, it is important to know that like most heart and blood pressure medications, it may cause some side effects such as dizziness, swelling of the ankles or feet, dry persistent cough, and headache in some people. Before you start taking Coveram, your doctor would have already assessed your health condition and decided this combination is right for you, so always follow their guidance closely. This tablet is manufactured by Servier, a trusted pharmaceutical company, and is widely recognised in clinical practice for its quality and reliability. Whether you are a new patient or a long-term user, understanding your medication better helps you take it safely and with confidence.

How to Take Coveram 5/5mg Tablet
Coveram 5/5mg Tablet should be taken orally, once daily, swallowed whole with a glass of water — it can be taken with or without food, though taking it at the same time each day helps maintain consistent levels in your body. It is generally recommended to take it in the morning, and you should never crush, chew, or split the tablet unless specifically advised by your doctor or pharmacist. Always follow your prescribing doctor's instructions, and do not stop taking this medication suddenly without medical advice, as this may affect your blood pressure control.

Dosage of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet
The standard recommended dose of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet is one tablet taken once daily, as prescribed by your doctor. Dosage adjustments, if needed, should only be made under medical supervision — do not increase or decrease your dose on your own without consulting your healthcare provider first.

Shelf Life of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet
Coveram 5/5mg Tablet has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture when stored under the recommended conditions. Always check the expiry date printed on the packaging before use, and do not consume the tablet if it has passed its expiry date. Expired medicines should be disposed of responsibly — do not flush them down the drain or throw them in regular household waste.

How to Store Coveram 5/5mg Tablet

  • Store Coveram 5/5mg Tablet at room temperature, below 30°C
  • Keep the tablets in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture
  • Do not store in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink where humidity is high
  • Keep the tablets in their original blister pack or packaging until ready for use
  • Store out of reach of children and pets at all times
  • Do not transfer tablets into a different container unless advised by your pharmacist

Active Ingredient of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet

Drug & Food Interactions of Coveram 5/5mg Tablet

Drug Interactions:

  • Potassium-sparing diuretics (e.g., spironolactone, amiloride) and potassium supplements — may increase the risk of high potassium levels (hyperkalaemia)
  • Other antihypertensive agents or diuretics — may cause additive blood pressure-lowering effects, increasing the risk of hypotension
  • NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin at high doses) — may reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of kidney impairment
  • Lithium — ACE inhibitors may increase lithium levels in the blood, raising the risk of lithium toxicity
  • Aliskiren — combination is contraindicated in diabetic or renally impaired patients; caution in others
  • Sacubitril/Valsartan — concurrent use is contraindicated due to increased angioedema risk
  • Immunosuppressants, allopurinol, or procainamide — may increase the risk of leucopenia (low white blood cell count)
  • CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir) — may increase Amlodipine plasma concentrations, potentially enhancing its effects and side effects
  • CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampicin, St John's Wort) — may reduce Amlodipine levels and decrease its effectiveness
  • Simvastatin — concurrent use with Amlodipine may increase simvastatin exposure; dose limitation may be required
  • Antidiabetic agents (insulin and oral hypoglycaemics) — ACE inhibitors may enhance glucose-lowering effects, increasing the risk of hypoglycaemia, especially during the first weeks of combined treatment

Food & Beverage Interactions:

  • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice — may increase Amlodipine blood levels by inhibiting CYP3A4 enzymes; it is advisable to avoid grapefruit while taking this medication
  • Alcohol — may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect, increasing the risk of dizziness, fainting, or hypotension; limit or avoid alcohol consumption
  • High-potassium foods (e.g., bananas, oranges, potatoes, salt substitutes containing potassium) — when consumed in large quantities alongside this medication, may contribute to elevated potassium levels; maintain a balanced diet and consult your doctor if you are on a potassium-rich diet

This is not an exhaustive list of all possible interactions. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting, stopping, or changing any medication while taking Coveram.

Quick Tips for Coveram 5/5mg Tablet

  • Take it at the same time every day — consistency helps maintain stable blood pressure control and reduces the chance of missed doses
  • Do not stop taking Coveram suddenly — always consult your doctor before discontinuing, even if you feel well
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions — this helps prevent dizziness caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure
  • Keep your follow-up appointments — regular blood pressure monitoring and kidney function checks are important while on this medication
  • Inform all your healthcare providers — including dentists and specialists, that you are taking Coveram before any procedure or new prescription
  • Store properly — keep below 30°C, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight; do not store in the bathroom
  • Check the expiry date before taking each tablet, especially if you have had the pack for a while
  • Keep it out of reach of children — store in a secure location at all times
  • Do not share your medication — Coveram is prescribed specifically for your condition and should not be taken by others
  • Dispose of expired or unused tablets responsibly — return them to a pharmacy for proper disposal rather than throwing them in the bin or flushing them
  • Avoid grapefruit juice while taking this medication as it may affect how Amlodipine is absorbed in your body
  • Carry your medication list — if you are travelling or visiting a new doctor, having a list of your current medicines including Coveram is always helpful
