Haruan fish (scientific name: Channa Striata) is a type of freshwater fish. Typically, the fish lives in stagnant and muddy water such as in ponds or swamps. Haruan fish is very popular among Asian countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. This fish is believed to have powerful wound healing properties. It is also rich in protein sources and consists of all types of essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are a group of proteins that are not produced readily by the human body, and thus they must be obtained through food sources. The presence of amino acids is very important for the wound healing process because it promotes the formation of collagen fibres in the skin.
Albumin is one of the key nutritional components that is important to maintain the osmotic pressure inside the body. Antinociceptive is a type of stimulus produced by the nervous system to prevent or reduce pain due to physical injury, harmful chemical reactions, or extreme temperatures.
Haruan fish are said to have higher antinociceptive levels than any other fish. Hence, it helps the healing process faster. In fact, the study also found that the antioxidant activity of haruan fish is five times higher than vitamin C. Antioxidant is important to protect the skin against free radicals. Moreover, the presence of arachidonic acid and linoleic fatty acid in haruan fish inhibits the production of inflammatory agents such as cytokines, thus helping to alleviate the symptoms of inflammation of the skin and heal damaged tissues.
