Introduction of Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s

Keppra 1000mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, but aim to take it at the same time every day to make the most of benefit. The dose will depend on your condition and how you react to the medication. Your doctor will give you the right dose. It is generally prescribed as long-term treatment. You will continue to take it as long as you have been told by your doctor, even though you feel good. If you stop or miss doses, the condition can get worse.

Before taking it, you should notify your doctor if you have any other complaints and if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding. Your doctor may prescribe regular blood tests to test your kidney function while you are taking this medicine.

How To Use Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s

This medicine is for oral use only. Swallow this medication as a whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take this medication at a fixed time each day if it is indicated for everyday use.

Side Effects

As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.

Some of the side effects do not require any medical attention and stop as the body responds to the medication. Consult the doctor if they continue or if you are concerned about them.

Some of the common side effects of this medication include dizziness, headache, infection, irritation, stuffy nose, sleepiness, behavioural changes, violent behaviour, and loss of appetite. Side effects are most common in the first few weeks and normally reduce as the body respond to  the medication. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention, but some of them may be serious.

Warning Precautions

Alcohol Warning (Not Advisable)

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s. Taking Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s with alcohol may have additive effects in the central nervous system. It increases the risk of CNS depression.

Pregnancy Warning (Not Safe)

Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s can be use during pregnancy at lowest effective dose if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. There is no major congenital malformation from the usage of Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s during pregnancy. Nevertheless, there is limited evidence on the neurodevelopment disability of children exposed to Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s in utero.

Breastfeeding Warning (Not Advisable)

Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s is excreted in human milk. Therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended.

Driving Warning (Not Advisable)

Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s has minor effects on the ability to concentrate and drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Warning (Use With Care)

Dose adjustment of Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s may be needed as the clearance of this medication is correlated with creatinine clearance. Thus, Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Warning (Use With Care)

Keppra 1000mg Tablet 100s should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease as dose adjustment may be needed. Dose titration is not required In mild to moderate liver disease. Please consult your doctor.

Quick Tips

  • Take Keppra 1000mg Tablet regularly as advised.
  • Do not alter the medication brand and ensure you have enough supply with you.
  • May cause dizziness. Use Keppra 1000mg Tablet with caution when driving or doing activities that require attention until you know how it affects you.
  • Practice yoga, healthy diet, good sleeping habits and limited screen time on mobile/laptop to ensure you get enough rest.
  • Do not discontinue Keppra 1000mg Tablet abruptly without consulting your doctor as it may increase seizure frequency.
