How To Use Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip)

This medicine is for oral use only. Swallow this medication as a whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take this medication at a fixed time each day if it is indicated for everyday use.

Side Effects

As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.

Many of the side effects do not require any medical attention and resolve as the body responds to the medication. Consult the doctor if they continue or if you are concerned about them.

The most common side effects of this medicine are hypoglycemia, upper respiratory tract infection, urinary tract infection, fever, and peripheral edema. It is necessary to identify symptoms of hypoglycemia, such as lightheadedness, sweating, dizziness, fainting and dry mouth, and to know how to deal with it. You may bring sugar or glucose sweets, and if you have any experience, you may need to control your symptoms.. Contact your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or concern you.

Alcohol Warning (Not Advisable)

The interaction of alcohol and Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) have not been studied specifically. Thus, it is not advisable to consume alcohol with Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) as risks cannot be excluded.

Pregnancy Warning (Maybe Safe)

Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicities at high doses but there are no data on the use of Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) in pregnant women. Thus, it is not advisable to be used unless clearly indicated. Please consult your doctor.

Breastfeeding Warning (Limited Data)

Excretion of Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) has been found in animal milk but it is unknown in human breast milk. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Warning (Generally Safe)

Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Warning (Use With Care)

Dose adjustment is needed in patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment. Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) is contraindicated in patients with end-stage kidney disease on hemodialysis.

Liver Warning (Limited Data)

Caution use has to be practised in patients with moderate liver impairment. Onglyza 5mg Tablet 14s (strip) is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment.

Quick Tips

Onglyza 5 mg tablet should be taken at the same time every day as this makes you remember to take it.
Be careful when driving or handling machinery until you know how the Onglyza 5mg Tablet affects you.
It may cause low blood sugar levels when used with other medications, alcohol or if you skip or miss a meal.
Always take some sugary food or fruit juice with you if you have signs of low blood sugar, such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor and anxiety.
Tell your doctor if you experience joint pains or develop symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea and/or vomiting.

What If You Forget To Take

If you miss a dose of Onglyza 5mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
