Product Overview

Introduction of Rigevidon Tablet 21s

Rigevidon is a combined oral contraceptive tablet that belongs to the class of hormonal contraceptives, commonly known as "the pill." It contains two active ingredients — levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol — which are synthetic forms of the female hormones progesterone and oestrogen. Like most medicines, Rigevidon may cause some side effects in certain users, including nausea, headaches, mood changes, and breast tenderness, so it is always good to be aware of these before you start. If you are thinking about this tablet, you should know that it requires a valid prescription, it needs to be taken consistently at the same time each day to work effectively, and it is not suitable for everyone — so a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before starting is always a smart move.

How to Take Rigevidon Tablet

Rigevidon tablets are taken orally — meaning you swallow them whole with a glass of water, with or without food. Each strip contains 21 tablets, and you take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free break, during which a withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) usually occurs. After the 7-day break, you start a new strip regardless of whether your bleed has finished or not.

Dosage of Rigevidon Tablet

The standard recommended dose of Rigevidon is one tablet daily for 21 days, taken at the same time each day to maintain consistent hormone levels. After completing the 21-day course, a 7-day break is observed before beginning the next pack — always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's specific instructions for your individual needs.

Shelf Life of Rigevidon Tablet

Rigevidon tablets typically have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years from the date of manufacture, as indicated on the packaging. Always check the expiry date printed on the blister strip and outer carton before use, and never take tablets that have passed their expiry date, as their effectiveness and safety cannot be guaranteed.

How to Store Rigevidon Tablet

  • Store Rigevidon tablets at room temperature, below 25°C
  • Keep the tablets in their original blister packaging to protect them from moisture and light
  • Store in a cool, dry place — avoid storing in bathrooms or near kitchen sinks where humidity is high
  • Keep out of reach and sight of children at all times
  • Do not store in a refrigerator or freezer unless specifically instructed
  • Dispose of any unused or expired tablets responsibly — check with your local pharmacy in Malaysia for safe medicine disposal options

Active Ingredient of Rigevidon Tablet

The tablet also contains inactive excipients (non-active ingredients) such as lactose monohydrate, maize starch, magnesium stearate, and sucrose, among others — refer to the patient information leaflet for the full list if you have known allergies or intolerances.

Drug & Food Interactions of Rigevidon Tablet

Medicines That May Reduce Rigevidon's Effectiveness:

  • Enzyme-inducing drugs — such as rifampicin (antibiotic), rifabutin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone, topiramate, and oxcarbazepine (used for epilepsy or infections)
  • HIV/AIDS medications — including ritonavir, nelfinavir, and nevirapine
  • St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) — a herbal supplement commonly used for low mood; it can significantly reduce hormonal contraceptive effectiveness
  • Griseofulvin — an antifungal medication
  • Modafinil — used for sleep disorders

Medicines That May Be Affected by Rigevidon:

  • Cyclosporine — levels may increase, raising the risk of toxicity
  • Lamotrigine — an epilepsy medicine whose levels may be reduced, potentially affecting seizure control
  • Theophylline — used for respiratory conditions; Rigevidon may alter its metabolism
  • Corticosteroids — their effects may be enhanced when taken alongside Rigevidon

Food & Lifestyle Interactions:

  • Grapefruit juice — may slightly affect hormone metabolism; best consumed in moderation
  • Alcohol — does not directly interact with Rigevidon but may increase the risk of forgetting to take the tablet on time
  • High-fat meals — generally do not significantly affect absorption, but maintaining a consistent routine is recommended

💡 Tip: If you are prescribed a new medicine while taking Rigevidon, always remind your prescribing doctor that you are on the pill. Additional contraceptive precautions (such as using condoms) may be needed during and after certain treatments.

Quick Tips for Rigevidon Tablet

  • Take it at the same time every day — setting a daily phone reminder can help you stay consistent and reduce the risk of a missed dose
  • Always read the patient information leaflet included in the packaging before you start your first pack
  • Keep your tablets in their original blister pack — this helps you track which tablets you have taken and protects them from moisture
  • Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place — avoid leaving them in your car, bathroom cabinet, or anywhere exposed to heat and humidity (especially important in Malaysia's tropical climate!)
  • Never share your medication with anyone else — hormonal contraceptives are prescribed based on individual health assessments
  • Check the expiry date on the pack before taking any tablet — expired medication should be safely disposed of
  • If you vomit within 3–4 hours of taking a tablet, it may not have been fully absorbed — treat it as a missed dose and refer to the patient leaflet or consult your pharmacist
  • Do not stop taking Rigevidon suddenly without speaking to your doctor, especially if you are taking it for a medically advised reason
  • Inform all healthcare providers (including dentists and specialists) that you are taking Rigevidon, as it may interact with certain treatments or procedures
  • Purchase only from licensed and reputable pharmacies — whether buying online or in-store in Malaysia, ensure the source is verified and trustworthy to guarantee product authenticity and safety

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Rigevidon Tablet

Q1: Can I buy Rigevidon tablets online in Malaysia?
Yes, Rigevidon tablets can be purchased through licensed online pharmacies in Malaysia. However, it is important to ensure that the online pharmacy you are buying from is registered and operates in compliance with Malaysian pharmaceutical regulations. Always look for verified platforms that require a valid prescription before dispensing prescription-only medicines.

Q2: Is Rigevidon readily available in Malaysia?

Q3: Do I need a prescription to purchase Rigevidon in Malaysia?
Yes. Rigevidon is a prescription-only medicine (POM) in Malaysia. This means you will need a valid prescription from a registered medical practitioner before it can be dispensed to you. Responsible online pharmacies in Malaysia will always request a copy of your prescription as part of the ordering process — be cautious of any platform that sells it without one.

Q4: How do I submit my prescription when ordering Rigevidon online?
When placing your order through our online pharmacy, you will be prompted to upload a clear photo or scanned copy of your valid prescription during the checkout process. Our pharmacist team will review and verify it before your order is processed and dispatched. Q5: How do I know the Rigevidon I receive is genuine and not counterfeit?

If you ever have concerns about the packaging or appearance of your tablets upon delivery, please contact us immediately and we will assist you.

Q6: What should I check when I receive my Rigevidon order?
When your order arrives, check that the packaging is intact and undamaged, the expiry date on both the blister strip and outer carton is valid, the batch number and manufacturer details are clearly printed, and the tablets appear consistent in size, colour, and shape. If anything looks unusual or different from what you expect, do not take the tablets and contact us or your nearest pharmacist right away.

Q7: How long does delivery of Rigevidon take within Malaysia?

Q11: How should I store Rigevidon tablets after receiving my order?
Store your Rigevidon tablets at room temperature, ideally below 25°C, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Given Malaysia's warm and humid climate, avoid storing them in the bathroom or in your car. Keep them in their original blister packaging and out of reach of children.

Q12: Can I return or exchange Rigevidon tablets if there is a problem with my order?
Due to the nature of pharmaceutical products and strict medicine handling regulations in Malaysia, we are generally unable to accept returns of opened or used medication. However, if you receive a damaged, incorrect, or potentially compromised product, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order and we will review your case and work toward a suitable resolution. Your safety is our priority.

Q13: What should I do with leftover or expired Rigevidon tablets?
Do not throw expired or unused tablets in regular household waste or flush them down the toilet. We recommend returning them to a licensed pharmacy for safe disposal. Many pharmacies in Malaysia participate in medicine take-back programmes to ensure proper pharmaceutical waste management.
