Chondroitin is commonly used in the treatment of osteoarthritis.

How Chondroitin Works

Chondroitin is a type of anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to glycosaminoglycans. Chondroitin works by stimulating proteoglycan production of chondrocytes. It also inhibits the production of certain proteolytic enzymes that leads to osteoarthritis

Side Effects of Chondroitin

Peripheral oedema, tachycardia; CNS disturbances (drowsiness, headache, somnolence, insomnia); GI disturbances (nausea, vomiting, Diarrhea, dyspepsia or epigastric pain, flatulence, constipation, heartburn, anorexia); cutaneous rash, erythema, pruritus; dermatitis, papular rash, urticaria, eczema (occasionally), hair loss, allergic reaction, visual disturbances, oedema
