Uses of Danazol

Danazol is commonly used to treat benign fibrocystic breast disease, endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding and hereditary angioedema.

How Danazol Works

Danazol inhibits the pituitary secretion of FSH and LH, resulting in atrophy of normal and ectopic endometrial tissue. It also decreases the growth rate of abnormal breast tissues and reduces attacks of hereditary angioedema by increasing C4 levels of the complement system.

Side Effects of Danazol

Androgenic effects (e.g. acne, seborrhoea, wt gain, hair loss, voice change, clitoral hyperthrophy), Emotional lability, Headache, Increased heart rate, Vaginal irritation, Abnormal semen quality, Menstrual disturbances, Rash.

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not recommended to consume alcohol with danazol as it can cause side effects of shortness of breath.

Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk

Both human and animal studies demonstrated adverse effects of Danazol on the fetus in a pregnant woman. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Not Advisable

Danazol is best avoided during lactation. It is excreted into human milk and could cause androgenic effect on a nursing baby. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Driving Generally Safe

Danazol cause no side effects which could affect your concentration and on your ability to drive.
