Uses of Denosumab

Denosumab is commonly used for postmenopausal osteoporosis as well as conservative managment of bone metastasis and giant cell tumour of bone.

How Denosumab Works

RANKL forms and maintains the survival of bone-breaking osteoclasts aka osteolysis. Denosumab is a form of human monoclonal antibody which has high affinity to RANKL, thereby inhibiting bone resorption from various pathologies

Side Effects of Denosumab

Back pain, Musculoskeletal pain, High blood cholesterol, High or low blood calcium, Low blood phosphate, Dermatitis, Eczema, Difficulting breathing, Diarrhea, Increased sweating, Tooth extraction, Hypersensitivity (including anaphylaxis), Urinary tract infection, Respiratory infection.

Denosumab Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

Alcohol is unlikely to interact with Denosumab. Nonetheless, alcohol is one of the risk factors for increased bone fracture. Hence, drink alcohol in moderation.

Pregnancy Limited Data

There's limited or no data regarding use of Denosumab in pregnant women but animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity. Risk of toxicity increases with each trimester due to transplacental crossing. Therefore, its usage if not recommended in pregnant women.

Lactation Not Advisable

Denosumab is best avoided during lactation. It is unknown if Denosumab is excreted into human milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Driving Generally Safe

Dasabuvir has negligible effect on your ability to concentrate and drive. You are allowed to drive unless you feel unwell.

Kidney Use With Care

Denosumab should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease due to increased risk of hypocalcemia. Dose adjustment of Denosumab for user's with kidney disease may not be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Liver Use With Care

Denosumab has not been used to study patients with liver disease. Since it is not metabolised by the liver, its pharmacokinetic is not affected by liver impairment. Please consult your doctor before using it.
