How Escitalopram Works

Escitalopram selectively inhibits serotonin (5-HT) reuptake in the central nervous system and potentiates serotonergic activity.

Escitalopram Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

There's no known interactions between alcohol and Escitalopram. However, users of centrally- acting medications are always advised not to consume it concurrently with alcoholic beverages. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, however, there are limited human studies. The benefits from use in pregnant women may outweigh the risk. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Not Advisable

Escitalopram is probably excreted into the breastmilk. Hence, patients on Escitalopram are advised to withhold breastfeeding while on this medication.

Driving Not advisable

Because Escitalopram is a centrally- acting medication which may cause side effects such as dizziness, headaches, nausea or tiredness, all of which could affect your ability to concentrate and drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Escitalopram should be used with caution in patients with severe kidney disease. On the other hand dose adjustment of Escitalopram may be needed for patients with mild to moderate kidney disease. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Escitalopram should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Escitalopram may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
