Uses of Estriol

Estriol is commonly used as hormone replacement therapy and to treat infertility as well as atrophic vaginitis.

How Estriol Works

Estriol is a synthetic form of oestrogen. It has a high affinity towards the oestrogen receptor in the vaginal tissue and less towards endometrial and breast tissue. Thus, it only induces a mild proliferative effect on the endometrium.

Side Effects of Estriol

Application site pruritus, Breast tension or pain, Nausea, Spotting, Fluid retention, Cervical hypersecretion

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Estriol. There has been drug interactions when alcohol is taken concurrently with Estriol. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Pregnancy Limited Data

Estriol may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. There are limited human and animal studies to show its potential risk on the fetus. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Lactation Not Advisable

It is unknown whether Estriol is excreted into the breastmilk and there are limited human and animal studies to show its potential risk on the feeding baby. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Driving Generally Safe

Estriol cause minimal to no side effects which will not affect your ability to concentrate and drive.

Kidney Use With Care

Estriol should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease due to its potential side effects of fluid retention. Dose adjustment of Estriol may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.

Liver Use With Care

Estriol should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Estriol may be needed. Please consult your doctor before using it.
