Uses of Fluticasone Propionate

Fluticasone propionate is commonly used in the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd), nasal polyps, allergic rhinitis and variety of skin diseases.

How Fluticasone Propionate Works

Fluticasone propionate is an anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive. It inhibits the late phase of allergic reactions which include decreasing the density of mast cells, decreasing chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, reducing the production of cytokine and inhibiting arachidonic acid metabolism.

Fluticasone Propionate Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It could be safe to consume alcohol with fluticasone propionate, but it is recommended to limit the amount as the interactions are still unknown.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Animal studies have demonstrated that it can cause developmental abnormalities to the fetus and there are inadequate human studies, however, the potential benefits may allow the usage of fluticasone propionate in pregnant women despite the risks. It is also recommended to only use minimum quantity for a minimum duration of the treatment.

Lactation Limited Data

It is unknown whether fluticasone propionate or its metabolites is excreted in human breast milk. Animal studies reported that there was evidence of fluticasone propionate in the rat's milk following subcutaneous administration. It is recommended to avoid using Fluticasone Propionate during breastfeeding unless the benefits to the mother outweigh the benefits of breastfeeding to the child.

Driving Generally Safe

Fluticasone propionate usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

In patients with renal impairment, the metabolism and elimination of this drug might be delayed in systemic absorption and thus, increases the risk of systemic toxicity. Therefore, to achieve clinical benefit, only the minimum quantity should be used for the shortest duration of treatment.

Liver Limited Data

In patients with liver impairment, the metabolism and elimination of Fluticasone Propionate might be delayed in systemic absorption and thus, increases the risk of systemic toxicity. Therefore, to achieve clinical benefit, only the minimum quantity should be used for the shortest duration of treatment.
