Methimazole Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

There is no clear contraindication on the consumption of alcohol when taking Methimazole.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Methimazole crosses the placenta and birth defects have been observed with the use of Methimazole. It is, therefore, contraindicated to be used during pregnancy.

Lactation Limited Data

The metabolites of Methimazole has been detected in human breastmilk and thus it should be used with caution during breastfeeding with the lowest effective dose and close monitoring.

Driving Not advisable

It is not advisable to drive when under Methimazole treatment due to its potential side effects such as headache, vertigo and dizziness which can affect the ability to concentrate and drive.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Methimazole is safe to be used and no need dosage adjustment in patients with renal impairment.

Liver Limited Data

There is no dosage adjustment needed for patients with hepatic impairment but caution should be taken if the patient develops signs of hepatotoxicity.
