Uses of Nystatin

Nystatin is commonly used in the treatment of fungal infections, fungal infections of mouth thrush, fungal skin infections, kala-azar, nail infections, severe fungal infections

How Nystatin Works

Nystatin is an antifungal which works by disrupting the cell wall permeability by binding to ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane. That will cause leakage of the cellular contents causing fungal cell death.

Side Effects of Nystatin

Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Rash, Urticaria, GI upset, Oral irritation, Bronchospasm

Nystatin Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

It is not safe to consume alcohol while taking Nystatin as it may cause interactions to occur.

Pregnancy Not Safe

There are no animal or human reproductive studies have been conducted. Hence, it is not known whether Nystatin can cause negative effects on the foetus. Its usage is allowed only when benefits outweigh the risks. Please consult doctor before using.

Lactation Not Advisable

Nystatin is not safe for breastfeeding as it may be excreted in breast milk. It is only proven in animal studies and it shows impairment in the development of baby animals. This risk cannot be excluded in humans thus it isn't safe.

Driving Generally Safe

Nystatin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Nystatin is generally safe for patients with kidney disease.

Liver Use With Care

Nystatin is generally safe for patients with liver disease.
