How Omeprazole Works

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. It is an Antacid. Omeprazole works by blocking the process of gastric acid secretion of a certain enzyme which is present in the gastric parietal cells.

Flatulence, Nausea, Vomiting Abdominal pain, Insomnia, Headache, Diarrhea, Constipation

Omeprazole Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with Omeprazole. Consuming Omeprazole with alcohol will not interfere with the way the medication works.

Pregnancy Not Safe

Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Safe If Prescribed

Omeprazole is excreted in small amounts in the breast milk but is not likely to influence the child when therapeutic doses are used.

Driving Generally Safe

Omeprazole usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Omeprazole can be used in patients with kidney impairment.

Liver Safe If Prescribed

The metabolism of omeprazole in patients with liver dysfunction is impaired, resulting in an increased AUC. Omeprazole has not shown any tendency to accumulate with once daily dosing.
