How Pyrazinamide Works

Pyrazinamide mechanism of action reduces the pH of the environment, affecting the growth of M. tuberculosis due to suboptimal environment for its activity.

Side Effects of Pyrazinamide

Hyperuricaemia leading to acute gout, Anorexia, Nausea, Vomiting, Aggravation of peptic ulcer, Arthralgia, Malaise, Fever, Anaemia, Thrombocytopenia, Dysuria, Hepatotoxicity.

Pyrazinamide Related Warnings

Alcohol Not Advisable

Avoid taking Pyrazinamide with alcohol as consuming both substances simultaneously potentiate hepatotoxicity.

Pregnancy Not Safe

No well- controlled studies in pregnant women. Pyrazinamide benefits from use in pregnant women may be acceptable despite the risk. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Pyrazinamide is shown to be excreted in breast milk.but its potential adverse drug effects on infants is largely unknown.

Driving Generally Safe

Pyrazinamide usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Pyrazinamide should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Dose adjustment of Pyrazinamide may be needed. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Use With Care

Pyrazinamide is contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment. Dose adjustment of Pyrazinamide is necessary. Please consult your doctor.
