How Roxithromycin Works

Roxithromycin is a macrolide which is able to inhibit the protein synthesis of bacterial cells by binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes.

Side Effects of Roxithromycin

Heart arrhythmias, Hearing disturbances, Gut disturbances, Taste/Smell distortion, Liver dysfunction, Bronchospasm, Headache, Dizziness, Allergic reactions, Aggravation of myasthenia gravis

Alcohol Safe

There is no known interaction between alcohol and Roxithromycin when used concomitantly.

Pregnancy Maybe Safe

Animal studies have not shown any reproductive toxicities and there are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Thus, caution use has to be practised during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Excretion of Roxithromycin is found in human breast milk. Thus, it is not advisable to be used during breastfeeding unless clearly indicated. Please consult your doctor.

Driving Generally Safe

Roxithromycin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Use With Care

Caution use has to be practised in patients with kidney impairment. Please consult your doctor.

Liver Use With Care

Caution use has to be practised in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. It is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment. Please consult your doctor.
