Silymarin is commonly used in the treatment of alcoholic fatty liver disease, cholestatic liver diseases and non alcoholic fatty liver.

How Silymarin Works

Silymarin is a Cholagogues. It works by stabilizing the cell membranes of hepatocytes and reducing the turnover of membrane phospholipids.

Abdominal bloating, Diarrhea, Flatulence, Loss of appetite, Anorexia, Nausea, Stomach upset

Silymarin Related Warnings

Alcohol Safe

It is safe to consume alcohol with Silymarin. However, Silymarin is consumed to prevent liver damage. Alcohol by itself can cause damage to the liver. Hence, before consuming Silymarin with alcohol, please see your doctor.

Pregnancy Not Safe - High Risk

Silymarin is contraindicated in pregnancy. Animal and human studies have revealed positive fetal risk with the use of Silymarin. Silymarin should be immediately stopped if pregnancy occurs. Please consult your doctor.

Lactation Not Advisable

Silymarin is contraindicated to use during lactation

Driving Generally Safe

Silymarin usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Safe If Prescribed

Silymarin is safe to be used in patients with renal impairment.

Liver Use With Care

Silymarin is safe and indicated to be used in patients with liver disease.
