Tacrolimus Topical

Information About Tacrolimus Topical

Uses of Tacrolimus Topical

Topical tacrolimus is used to treat mild to extreme atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults who are inadequately receptive to or intolerance to traditional therapies such as topical corticosteroids. Just 0.03% of Topical tacrolimus is used to treat children (2 years of age and older) who have not responded sufficiently to alternative treatments, such as topical corticosteroids.

How Tacrolimus Topical Works

The active ingredient tacrolimus monohydrate, is an immunomodulating agent. In atopic dermatitis, an extreme reaction of the skin's immune system triggers inflammation of the skin (itchiness, redness, dryness). Protopic® alters the unusual immune response and relieves skin irritation and itching.
