This medicine is for oral use only. Swallow this medication as a whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it. It is better to take this medication at a fixed time each day if it is indicated for everyday use.

Glucovance Drug Interactions

Drug to drug interaction reaction of Glucovance varies from a person to another person. It is advisable to check with your doctor about all the possible drug interactions before starting the medication.
  • Other antidiabetic agents
  • Danazol
  • Corticosteroids
  • ACE inhibitors
  • Diuretics

This is an incomprehensive list of drug-to-drug interactions and conditions that might interfere with Glucovance function. Do inform your doctor about all your current medications prior to consuming this drug. 

Keep the following precautions in mind as well:-
  • Avoid excess exposure to sunlight
  • Avoid this medicine for a longer use
  • Alcohol might affect your liver if it is taken with this medication
  • Tell your doctor if you have any other diseases or if you are taking any other medication
  • Do not discontinue the prescribed course

Alcohol Warning (Not Advisable)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet is known to have an effect similar to a drug called disulfiram, which is used to curb chronic alcoholism. It renders the patient being acutely sensitive to alcohol and feeling unwell.It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet. Alcohol intoxication can increase the risk of lactic acidosis particularly in case of fasting, malnutrition or hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy Warning (C)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy as animal studies have shown adverse effects on the foetus and human studies also showed some adverse effect. Therefore, please consult your doctor to discuss the benefits over the risks of taking sulfonylurea due to their chance of having too low blood sugar.Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet should be safe to use during pregnancy because either animal or human studies have not shown any adverse effects on the fetus, however, uncontrolled hyperglycemia in people with PCOS can increase the risk of congenital abnormalities and intrauterine death.

Breastfeeding Warning (Not Safe To Breastfeed)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet being excreted into the breast milk has not been made certain but the risk of having a baby with too low blood sugar cannot be excluded. Therefore, it isn't safe for breastfeeding.Limited human studies suggest that Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet does not represent a significant risk to the baby when used during pregnancy. In regards to limited data, please consult your doctor to decide on discontinuation of breastfeeding or Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet.

Driving Warning (Safe)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Warning (High Risk)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet requires dose adjustment for patients with mild to moderate kidney disease as it is partially excreted in the urine. Please consult your doctor. Patients with severe kidney disease are contraindicated from taking Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet.Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet is not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease, especially in patients with creatinine clearance less than 60mL/min. Patients with severe kidney disease has high risk to get lactic acidosis. Dose adjustment of Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet and regular check up to monitor renal function may be needed. Please consult your doctor before consumption.

Liver Warning (Safe)
Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet may require dose adjustments for patients with liver disease so please consult your doctor before starting Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet. However, patients with severe liver disease are contraindicated from taking Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet.Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease due to increased risk of lactic acidosis. Hence liver function test should be done before initiating Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet. Discontinuation of Glucovance 500mg/2.5mg Tablet may be needed if there is deterioration of liver function. Please consult your doctor.

As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.

Side Effects
Apart from the list of Glucovance uses, there could be certain side-effects associated with the usage of the medication. Please refer to the list below:-

  1. GI disorders
  2. Visual disturbances
  3. Hypoglycemia
  4. Loss of appetite
  5. Taste disturbances

While some these symptoms are more common, there are a few rare symptoms that could also occur. If you are feeling any other symptoms (whether it is mentioned in the above list or not), please consult with a doctor immediately. Please, consult with a doctor if you are having rashes or blurry visions. Report if you experience any other symptoms as the above list may not be exhaustive. These symptoms become more prominent as when one is undergoing a long term therapy with this medication.

Weight Gain, Nausea, Heartburn, Diarrhea, Rashes, Skin itch, Joint pain, Muscle pain, Low blood glucose.

Cough or hoarseness, Decreased appetite, Diarrhea, Dyspnea, Upper respiratory tract infection, Nausea, Vomiting, Flatulence, Heartburn/dyspepsia, Abdominal distention, Constipation.

1. What should I do when I missed a dose of Glucovance?

If you have missed a dose by chance, try to consume it as soon as possible when you notice. If the time to your next dosage is close, simply skip the medicine. In such cases, try to not double the dosage. 

2. I  think I have accidentally overdosed from the prescribed quantity of Glucovance. Do I need to see a doctor?

If you feel that you might have used more than the prescribed quantity of Glucovance, please talk to a physician immediately as overdosage more than the prescribed quantity might lead to undesirable side-effects. 

3. What should I do if I mistakenly took an expired dose of Glucovance?

Consuming an expired dose of Glucovance by accident might not be harmful but do consult your physician for advice just to be safe in this matter. 

4. Is it alright to use nutritional supplements such as Zincovit, D-rise 60k along with 

Yes, Glucovance can be taken with supplements. But, it is advisable for you to inform your physician about all the current medications as well supplements that you are currently taking before using this medicine.

5. Do I have to gradually reduce the dosage of Glucovance or can it be stopped abruptly? 
Consult with your doctor regarding the usage of the medication as well as withdrawal symptoms, if any.

6. In a day, how many times should I take Glucovance?

The dosage and frequency of Glucovance is based on your condition. Use the drug as instructed by your doctor. You can also follow the instruction that has been printed on the product insert.
