A period occurs when a woman's vaginal bleeds for a few days throughout her menstrual cycle. Most women's periods last about 28 days, although it's usual for them to go longer or shorter, ranging from day 21 to day 40 of their menstrual cycle. Your period might last anywhere from three to eight days, although it normally lasts approximately five. The first two days are when the bleeding is the most intense. The blood will be red when your menstruation is at its thickest. It can be pink, brown, or black on brighter days.
