Pregnancy Warning (Not Safe)

There is evidence of fetal risk based on human studies, but potential benefits may necessitate the use of Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s in pregnancy despite the risks. The lowest effective dose should be administered if required. This is often discontinued three to four weeks before term, to reduce the risk to the fetus. Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s can cross the placenta but with adequate dose and thyroid status monitoring, studies have found that neonatal thyroid abnormalities are not shown. Occurrence of congenital malformation is found to be greater in children of mothers with untreated hyperthyroidism as compared to treated.

Breastfeeding Warning (Limited Data)

Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s is excreted in milk and if treatment is continued during lactation the patient should not continue to breast-feed her baby.

Driving Warning (Generally Safe)

Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s usually does not affect the ability to drive. Do not drive unless you are feeling well.

Kidney Warning (Safe If Prescribed)

There is limited data on the safety profile of Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s on the kidney. It is fairly safe to use this drug in patients with renal impairment. However, kidney disorder might prolong the half-life of Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s.

Liver Warning (Limited Data)

In patients with underlying mild-moderate hepatic insufficiency, Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s should be used with caution. The treatment must be stopped when the liver function test is found to be abnormal. This is because liver disorder might extend the half-life of Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet 100s.

Quick Tips

Take Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet regularly as advised.
Radio-iodine treatments may have to be temporarily withheld while you are on Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet.
Do not take double dose if you have skipped the medication. Take Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet as your doctor's advised.
Regular blood tests will be conducted to monitor blood cell levels.
Notify your doctor if you experience excessive bruises or bleed, sore throat, oral ulcers, fever, or any other disease.
Inform your doctor and stop using Neo-Mercazole 5mg Tablet if you experience signs of liver problems such as stomach discomfort, lack of appetite, darker urine, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
Inform your doctor if you are on other medications such as other anti-thyroid drugs (Thaimazole,Prophylthiouracil),blood thinning medications(Warfarin), medications for asthma(Theophylline), antibiotics( such as erythromycin) or other anti-inflammatory medications (such as Prednisolone).
