Folic acid is a water-soluble synthetic form of folate that is found in supplements and fortified meals. Folate is found naturally in a large variety of foods and cannot be synthesised by the body, which is why it needs to be acquired from foods or supplements such as the GNC Folic Acid 800mcg Tablet.
Foetal folate deficit may lead to megaloblastic anaemia, and birth abnormalities as a result of folate deficiency in their mothers before and during pregnancy. This nutrient is important for:
1. Reducing the risk of birth abnormalities and problems during pregnancy To reduce the risk of birth defects, folic acid and folate supplements are commonly used.
2. Treatment of folate insufficiency Folate deficiency can be caused by poor diet, surgery, pregnancy, drunkenness, and malabsorptive disorders. The lack of this nutrient can cause megaloblastic anaemia, birth abnormalities, and immune system dysfunction.
3. Reduce Inflammation Inflammatory indicators such as C-reactive protein (CRP) have been shown to be possibly reduced in populations such as PCOS women and children with epilepsy when they take folic acid or folate supplements.
