Product Overview

Introduction of Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet 30s

Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet is a combination prescription medication belonging to the antihypertensive drug class, containing two active ingredients — Telmisartan 40mg and Amlodipine 5mg — working together in a single convenient tablet. If you have been prescribed this medicine, it is important to know that like most medications, it may cause some side effects including dizziness, swelling of the ankles or feet (peripheral oedema), headache, and flushing. Before you start taking Twynsta, your doctor would have assessed your health profile, and we want you to feel confident knowing exactly what you are taking. This tablet is manufactured to pharmaceutical-grade standards, and understanding its key details — from how to take it correctly to how to store it safely — can make a real difference in your treatment journey.

How to Take Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet
Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet should be taken orally, once daily, with or without food, swallowed whole with a glass of water — do not crush or chew the tablet. It is best taken at the same time each day to help maintain consistent levels of the medication in your body and to support a healthy routine. Always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's specific instructions, as individual dosing guidance may vary based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Dosage of Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet
The generally recommended dose of Twynsta 40/5mg is one tablet taken once daily, as directed by a qualified healthcare professional. Your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your individual clinical needs, kidney or liver function, and overall cardiovascular health — never self-adjust your dose without medical advice.

Shelf Life of Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet
Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet typically has a shelf life of 3 years from the date of manufacture, as indicated on the packaging. Always check the expiry date printed on the blister pack or carton before use, and do not take the tablet if it has passed its expiry date, even if it appears unchanged in appearance.

How to Store Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet

  • Store Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Store out of reach and sight of children at all times.
  • Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in any area with high humidity or temperature fluctuations.
  • If you have unused or expired tablets, do not flush or throw them in regular waste — return them to your pharmacist for proper disposal.

  • Hypersensitivity — Patients with a known allergy to Telmisartan, Amlodipine, or any of the tablet's excipients should not use this product.
  • Severe hepatic impairment (liver disease) — Twynsta is contraindicated in patients with severe liver dysfunction.
  • Biliary obstructive disorders — Conditions involving blockage of bile flow are a contraindication.
  • Cardiogenic shock or haemodynamically unstable heart failure — Amlodipine should be used with extreme caution or avoided in these conditions.

Drug & Food Interactions of Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet
Being aware of potential interactions helps you use Twynsta safely and effectively. Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking.

Drug Interactions:

  • Aliskiren (renin inhibitor) — Concurrent use increases the risk of hypotension, hyperkalaemia, and renal impairment; contraindicated in diabetic patients.
  • ACE Inhibitors (e.g., Ramipril, Enalapril) — Combined use with Telmisartan may increase the risk of kidney problems and high potassium levels.
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements — May lead to elevated potassium levels (hyperkalaemia) when taken alongside Telmisartan.
  • NSAIDs (e.g., Ibuprofen, Naproxen) — May reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect of Telmisartan and increase the risk of kidney damage.
  • Lithium — Telmisartan may increase lithium blood levels, raising the risk of lithium toxicity.
  • Digoxin — Amlodipine has been reported to increase plasma Digoxin levels; monitoring may be required.
  • Simvastatin — Co-administration with Amlodipine may increase Simvastatin exposure; dose adjustments may be needed.
  • CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole, Erythromycin) — May increase Amlodipine plasma concentrations, potentially enhancing its effects and side effects.
  • Other antihypertensive agents — Additive blood pressure-lowering effect when combined with other blood pressure medications.
  • Cyclosporin — Amlodipine may increase Cyclosporin blood concentrations.

Food & Lifestyle Interactions:

  • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice — May increase Amlodipine levels in the blood; it is advisable to avoid or limit grapefruit consumption while on this medication.
  • Alcohol — Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of Twynsta, potentially causing excessive dizziness or fainting. Limit alcohol intake.
  • High-potassium foods (e.g., bananas, oranges, salt substitutes) — Excessive consumption may contribute to elevated potassium levels when combined with Telmisartan.
  • High-sodium diet — May reduce the effectiveness of the antihypertensive therapy; a balanced, low-sodium diet is generally recommended.

This is not an exhaustive list. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist for personalised interaction guidance.

Quick Tips for Twynsta 40/5mg Tablet

  • Take it at the same time every day to build a consistent routine and avoid missed doses.
  • Do not stop taking Twynsta suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well — stopping abruptly can be harmful.
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions to reduce the risk of dizziness caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure.
  • Keep your follow-up appointments — regular blood pressure monitoring and kidney function tests may be recommended by your doctor.
  • Inform all healthcare providers (including dentists and specialists) that you are taking Twynsta before any procedure or new prescription.
  • Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C and keep away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Check the expiry date on the packaging before taking each tablet, especially if you have had the medication stored for some time.

  • Keep a medication list — carry a record of all medicines you take in case of emergencies or medical consultations.
