Product Overview

Introduction of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet 28s

Xigduo XR 10/1000mg is a combination prescription tablet belonging to the class of antidiabetic medicines, bringing together two active ingredients — dapagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride — in a single extended-release formulation designed to support blood sugar management in adults. If you are considering this medication, it is important to know that, like most medicines, it can come with some side effects, including nausea, urinary tract infections, dizziness, and in rare cases, a serious condition called lactic acidosis. This is a prescription-only medicine, so you will need a valid doctor's prescription before purchasing or starting treatment. We want you to feel confident and informed every step of the way, so always speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about this medication before use.

How to Take Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet should be taken orally, once daily with your morning meal to help reduce stomach discomfort and improve tolerability. Swallow the tablet whole — do not crush, cut, or chew it, as this is an extended-release formulation and breaking it may affect how the medicine is released into your body. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions regarding timing and dosage, as individual requirements may vary based on your medical condition and kidney function.

Dosage of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

The typical recommended dose of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg is one tablet taken once daily with the morning meal, though your doctor may adjust the dosage based on your individual health needs and response to treatment. Never self-adjust your dose — always follow the prescribed regimen provided by your healthcare professional.

Shelf Life of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet generally has a shelf life of 36 months (3 years) from the date of manufacture when stored under the recommended conditions. Always check the expiry date printed on the packaging before use, and do not take the tablet if it has passed its expiry date. If you are unsure about the condition or validity of your medication, consult your pharmacist before consuming.

How to Store Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

Store Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet at room temperature, ideally below 30°C, in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging with the lid tightly closed to protect them from humidity, which is especially important in Malaysia's tropical climate. Always store this medication out of reach of children and pets, and never store it in the bathroom or near the kitchen sink where moisture levels tend to be high.

Active Ingredient of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

  • Dapagliflozin – 10mg (a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor, or SGLT2 inhibitor)
  • Metformin Hydrochloride – 1000mg (a biguanide class antidiabetic agent)

These two components work together as a dual-action combination in a single extended-release tablet. The formulation also contains inactive excipients that support the tablet's structure, stability, and extended-release mechanism.

Drug & Food Interactions of Xigduo XR 10/1000mg Tablet

Drug Interactions:

  • Insulin and insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulphonylureas) — increased risk of hypoglycaemia when used together; dose adjustment may be required
  • Diuretics (water tablets) — may increase the risk of dehydration and low blood pressure when combined with dapagliflozin
  • ACE inhibitors and ARBs — combined use may increase the risk of kidney-related side effects and dehydration
  • NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen) — may affect kidney function and interact with the metformin component
  • Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (e.g., topiramate, acetazolamide) — may increase the risk of lactic acidosis and metabolic acidosis
  • Iodinated contrast agents — metformin should be temporarily stopped before procedures involving contrast dye to reduce lactic acidosis risk
  • Corticosteroids — may raise blood sugar levels and reduce the effectiveness of antidiabetic medications
  • Cationic drugs (e.g., cimetidine, digoxin, morphine) — may compete with metformin for renal tubular transport, potentially increasing metformin levels
  • Rifampicin and other CYP3A4 inducers — may reduce dapagliflozin plasma concentrations

Food & Lifestyle Interactions:

  • Alcohol — avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it significantly increases the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycaemia with this medication
  • High-carbohydrate or high-sugar meals — while not a direct drug interaction, dietary habits can affect blood glucose control
  • Low-calorie or very low-carbohydrate diets — may increase the risk of ketoacidosis in susceptible individuals taking dapagliflozin

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbal products you are currently taking.
