Sitavio-M 50/850mg Tablet

Sitavio-M 50/850mg Tablet is a prescription oral medicine manufactured by Novugen, containing a fixed-dose combination of two antidiabetic active ingredients: sitagliptin 50mg, a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor, and metformin hydrochloride 850mg, a biguanide. It is used, together with diet and exercise, to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are not adequately controlled on metformin alone, or who are already being treated with the combination of sitagliptin and metformin as separate tablets.

Combining both active ingredients into a single film-coated tablet is intended to simplify a patient’s daily medicine routine compared with taking two separate tablets. As with any combination diabetes medicine, the exact strength prescribed, dosing frequency, and any further treatment adjustments must be individualised by the treating doctor based on blood glucose control, kidney function, and other medicines being taken.

Sitagliptin blocks the DPP-4 enzyme, which normally breaks down incretin hormones (such as GLP-1). This raises incretin levels, increasing glucose-dependent insulin release and reducing glucagon secretion after meals. Metformin works differently: it reduces glucose production by the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin in peripheral tissues. Together, the two mechanisms provide complementary blood glucose control.

Sitavio-M tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, taken with meals (for example, with breakfast and dinner) to help reduce stomach upset. Do not crush or chew the tablet. If a dose is missed, take it with the next meal as usual; do not double the dose to make up for a missed one. Patients should continue to follow their prescribed diet and exercise plan alongside this medicine.

The usual dose of Sitavio-M 50/850mg is one tablet taken twice daily with meals, to reduce the gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. The specific strength prescribed depends on the patient’s current metformin dose and blood glucose control, as assessed by the doctor. Patients should never adjust their own dose or switch between Sitavio-M strengths without medical advice, particularly as metformin dosing may need to be reduced in patients with impaired kidney function.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to sitagliptin, metformin, or any component of the formulation
• Severe kidney impairment
• Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis
• Conditions that increase the risk of lactic acidosis, such as severe dehydration, severe infection, or shock
• Significant liver impairment

• Alcohol can increase the risk of lactic acidosis associated with metformin and should be avoided or limited
• Iodinated contrast media used in certain imaging procedures may require metformin to be temporarily stopped – inform your doctor if you are scheduled for a scan involving contrast dye
• Combining with sulfonylureas or insulin may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia
• Certain diuretics, corticosteroids, and other medicines that affect blood glucose or kidney function may require dose review – always inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking

• Take each dose with a meal to reduce stomach upset
• Attend scheduled blood tests, as your doctor may periodically check kidney function while you are on this medicine
• Inform your doctor before any procedure involving contrast dye or if you become seriously unwell, as metformin may need to be temporarily paused
• Seek urgent medical attention if you experience unusual muscle pain, difficulty breathing, or severe tiredness, which can rarely signal lactic acidosis
