Weird sensation on left side of chin

Hello,

I am a 19 year old female with no medical history. A few minutes ago, I started experiencing this sudden weird feeling on the left side of my chin, it’s like a mix of tightness and burning perhaps. This is my first time experiencing something like this and I wasn’t sure if it was numbness so I googled it and got frightening results (such as cancer etc.).

Anyways, I dug my fingernails into the affected side to see if it would hurt since I wasn’t so sure if it was numb or not and it did and now it burns even more.

To note, the air conditioner in my room is constantly on and my room is always very cold and im also very sleep deprived as I sleep at 5am everyday, could either of these be the cause of it?

Please do help as im quite terrified. Thank you so much for your time. Have a good day.

The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions due to the limited information provided by you. Click on this link (DoctorOnCall) for a private consultation with our doctors.

Regarding the description of your condition, the symptoms and signs that you stated are too vague. There are several questions that we need to enquire from you to explore different possibilities and making conclusions regarding your complaints.

However, if you are experiencing numbness over you chin area, this can be due to:

  • Stroke
  • Bell’s Palsy
  • Facial nerve problem

Regarding your sleeping problem, proper sleep hygiene may be helpful in resolving your problem. You must separate your sleeping area from your working area and your eating area, this will train your brain to prepare for sleep when you enter your bedroom. You can also develop a sleeping ritual, such as taking a warm bath, mediate, or reading a book before sleep.

You should also try to go to bed at the same time every night, avoid daytime napping, and do not look into screens such as your handphone or laptop before sleep. The artificial light from these screens and devices may send mixed signals to your brain, which will keep you awake throughout the night. Finally, regular exercise during the day is proven to improve mood and also improve the quality of sleep at night. I hope this answers your questions and these tips are helpful for you.

Therefore, please click on this link (DoctorOnCall) to speak with our doctors online. We assure you that our conversations are kept in confidentiality unless additional consultation needed with other medical parties. Thank you.
