Close contact with covid-19 positive patient

Hi Doctor, my father is 68 years old, went to a birthday party last Saturday. Was informed that one person from the party was tested positive for Covid-19, and my father had shook his hand at the party. However, it has been 7 days and no symptoms so far. Should he be quarantined or get tested? And what is my risk for seeing him. Pls advise.

Hi.

Thank you for your question.

I understand your worry hence you should monitor closely your health for any signs of symptoms such as fever, coughing, shortness of breath and others up to 14 days. If you have any of the symptoms, please report to your healthcare provider immediately.

The decision of whether a person needs to be checked is depending on the doctor’s evaluation of the patient’s history and risks. If a person develops symptoms such as fever and respiratory symptoms, he/she will be further evaluated for diagnostic testing.
