Hi there and good morning. Based on your description, I believe that you are having a depo provera hormonal infections. The injected depo provera suppresses your pituitary gland that stops your ovaries from producing eggs. Without the eggs, pregnancy cannot happen. The injections also can change the lining of your uterus and alters mucus production in your cervix.

By changing your cervical mucus production, the hormones make it more difficult for a male sperm to fertilise the egg. There are few possible side effects from the injections. They can be different to each female. The side effects include absence of menstrual periods (the longer you get the injections, the greater chance you will have no menstrual process at all), irregular menstrual cycle which the longer or shorter menstrual periods, the heavier or lighter periods.

Weight gain also is one of the side effects for women taking injections especially with women that has already overweight before the injections. But you can avoid this by getting a healthy diet and having a regular physical exercise. Other side effects for example:

  • dizziness
  • headache
  • mood changes or depression
  • bloating
  • abdominal pain or discomfort

If you got any of those side effects, talk with your health care professional. It is vital for you to know that most females will have very irregular periods, especially during the first 6 months you are on depo provera injections. My advise to you is to have a regular sexual activities with your partner especially during the ovulation period. Because that might increase your chances of getting pregnant.
