Prolonged coughing which has been going for than 10 days

I had the whole package of a cold:fever, drippy nose and a case of mild coughing (as a note, I did not have any contact with patients that have been confirmed positive for Covid-19). So I went for a checkup on the 05/03/2020 at a nearby KK. There wasn’t anything alarming, tonsil’s not swollen and my temperature went down to normal when I came for the check up. The doctor prescribed diphenhydramine expectorant for the symptoms and suggested that I get myself a bottle of thymol gargle (which I did and have been using it). I have not had any fever so far but the coughing is getting worse these past couple of days, it’s hurting my throat. My left side of the chest feels constricted (a dull pressure). My phlegm’s clear, though. I’d like to know if I need to go for another consultation, as precaution.

Greetings!

Thank you for your question. I understand you are worried about having the COVID-19 infection. Since you are not a direct contact of anyone positive for COVID-19, you do not have a high risk of getting the virus.

As you also have gone to KK and received treatment, I would suggest you to follow the treatment. With recent hot weather, you are advice to drink plenty of water and use thymol gargle to reduce inflammation due to chronic cough.
