Diarrhea and sore throat

I am a 23 years old student who just returned from UK last week. Today is my 7th day of self quarantine. I had diarrhea on my third day of self quarantine and sore throat since fourth day of self quarantine. Besides that, I have no fever or cough. Should I go for a Covid-19 test?

Hi!

Thank you for your question. I understand that you are worried about the risk of COVID-19 infection. According to WHO, the common symptoms of COVID-19 infection are:

  • Fever (more than 37.5 degrees celcius)
  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Aches and pains
  • Sorethroat
  • Headaches
  • Shortness of breath

There are reported symptoms of diarrhea in a number of positive cases in China. Based on your symptoms,you are encouraged to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate your health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, you will be classified into several categories.Nevertheless, you may be in low or moderate risk as you have no recent history of travelling to high risk countries or close contact to positive COVID-19 patient.

Besides COVID-19 infection, your symptoms can be caused by other health problems such as:

  • Other bacterial or viral infection
  • tonsillitis
  • Allergic Rhinitis
    *Food poisoning
  • Acute gastroenteritis
