I’ve had chlamydia treatment done with my partner
I’ve had chlamydia treatment done with my partner. But recently we had intercourse and she had a lot of brown discharge which she has been continuing to have for the past week. Is it possible that we got reinfected?

Hi there. Thank you for the question. It is apparent that you are worried about your partner’s condition. Based on what you have mentioned, it is apparent that you are infected with chlamydial infection which is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. There are high possibility of reinfecting yourself and your partner if the course of treatment that was done was inadequate.
There are chances that chlamydial infection can stay dormant for a long period of time and resurface when the body immune is down. Symptoms of Chlamydia infection includes discharge from your penis, a burning sensation when urinating, burning or itching around the opening of your penis or pain and swelling in one or both testicles.
Chlamydial infection can cause pelvic inflammatory diseases in woman which can cause permanent damage to reproductive system. Chlamydial infection can lead to long-term pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. Chlamydia can be treated by a course of antibiotics such as azithromycin or doxycycline.
Azithromycin will be prescribed once a day for five days meanwhile doxycycline will be prescribed twice daily for a week. The rate of cure is very high for sexually transmitted disease after completing the course of antibiotics. It is pertinent to get yourself and your partner treated appropriately so you will not reinfect each other.
It is advisable to get another test done after completing the course of medications to confirm the clearance of infections. It is also advisable to practice safe sex or abstinence for the time being.
