Uncertain with symptoms, dismissed by doctor

Hi. On Monday I had a headache and was feeling exhausted.
Someone talked to me that evening, and later that night she was informed that she needs to be in 14 days self quarantine as she was exposed to someone who is a housemate of a confirmed case (secondary contact). I was not aware of this until the next day (Tuesday).
That next day (Tuesday) I woke up feeling dizzy, having a headache and rapid pulse; and when I knew about my exposure to secondary contact, I decided to see a doctor. Doctor said my BP was my normal and since I’m not having any cough or fever, I should be ok, and sent me home with some ‘giddy’ medication.
Though I went to work on Wednesday, I woke up with runny nose and sneezing that persisted the whole day til I went to bed that night.
Thursday morning I woke up with a painful throat, stuffy nose and headache along with rapid pulse. I went to see the doctor again and she gave me medication for phlegm and said I’m ok to go to work as I do not have a fever.
Thursday night I could hardly sleep due to my stuffy nose, but also a chest pain on my left side.
I woke up today still unwell, coughing every now and then and still with stuffy nose. I still do not have a fever so my workplace allowed me in.

As I’m aware symptoms present differently in different patients, and that people take different amount of time to present with symptoms, I just feel the need to check if I am really free of Covid19 or if there’s still a risk. The symptoms I have been having seem more pronounced than any common cold I have had before, although it’s been awhile I caught one until this.

Thank you for your question.

First and foremost, I understand your concern regarding this issue of coronavirus since there’s an outbreak of the virus.

From your given situation, I noticed that you’ve been visiting the clinic for few times already. To alleviate your worry, you can answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate your health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, you will be classified into several categories as follows and please act accordingly.

The only advice I can offer for now is for you to watch out your symptoms, boost up your immune system by practicing healthy diet, drink a lot of water, get enough rest and be active. On top of that you have to adhere to these guidelines from Centre of Disease Control (CDC):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue
