Belly button bleeding due to irregular menstrual

I am 40years old and i have been having series of bleeding of my belly button. I suspected it is due to my irregular period which i had since April 2021. It camw every 2 weeks.

Hi, thank you for your question.

Your problem is about bleeding belly button and thinking it was caused by your irregular menses. I will try to give you an explanation.

For your information, hormonal problems usually cause an irregular period. And menses or periods came from your uterus. Belly button is a blind organ that was closed after you were born.

It can cause the bleeding belly button by:

  • Injury from scratching
  • Infection
  • Fistula

However, there is a rare condition where this can happen which is called primary umbilical endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition that happened when the tissue of your uterus lining grows somewhere else in the body and it may grow in your belly button.

Those with this condition may have endometriosis in the uterus as well which may explain your irregular period.
However, this condition is very rare and we couldn’t say that this is what you have.

Therefore, it is best for you to get yourself checked by referring this problem to a doctor. You can talk to us via online consultation and we will refer you to a gynaecologist if needed.

We hope this explanation helps you.
Thank you.
