Tight Chest out of nowhere

I am a 23-year-old female with a mild asthma. I just wanna ask, why does my chest felt tight whenever I ate a banana? Is there anything in a banana that I can’t eat? I ate one yesterday for lunch and later that day, my chest felt tight and hurt. I thought because my office is too cold but today I ate a banana again for lunch and out of sudden, my chest felt tight again. Why is that?

Good Evening,
Thank you for your question. I understand your concerns and will try to help you today.

For your information, a banana allergy is often connected to a latex allergy. This is because some of the proteins in the rubber trees that produce latex are known to cause allergies, and they are similar to the proteins found in some nuts and fruits, including bananas. This syndrome is known as latex-food syndrome or latex-fruit allergy.

Among some of the famous symptoms for these allergies are :

  • itching or swelling of the lips, tongue, and throat
  • hives
  • swollen, itchy, or red eyes
  • runny nose or sneezing
  • shortness of breath
  • abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea

I hope I’ve answered your question.
Thank you.
