Abbott Lipanthyl Penta 145mg Tablet

Abbott Lipanthyl Penta 145mg Tablet is a prescription oral medicine manufactured by Abbott, containing fenofibrate 145mg formulated using NanoCrystal technology to improve absorption. Fenofibrate belongs to the fibrate class of lipid-lowering medicines and is used, together with diet, to treat abnormal blood lipid levels (dyslipidaemia) in adults, including high triglycerides and mixed hyperlipidaemia, in patients who have not responded adequately to diet and other measures alone.

The 145mg NanoCrystal formulation allows fenofibrate to be absorbed consistently regardless of whether it is taken with or without food, which distinguishes it from older fenofibrate formulations that require administration with meals for adequate absorption. Lipanthyl Penta is usually used as part of a broader cardiovascular risk-reduction plan that may also involve statins, dietary changes, and other lifestyle measures, as directed by the treating doctor.

Fenofibrate is converted in the body to its active form, fenofibric acid, which activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α). This increases the breakdown of triglyceride-rich particles, reduces triglyceride production by the liver, and can increase HDL (“good”) cholesterol, resulting in an overall improvement in the blood lipid profile.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, at approximately the same time each day. Unlike some older fenofibrate formulations, Lipanthyl Penta’s NanoCrystal formulation can be taken with or without food. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose, in which case the missed dose should be skipped.

The usual adult dose of Lipanthyl Penta is one 145mg tablet once daily. The exact dose may be adjusted by the doctor based on lipid response and kidney function, and periodic blood tests are used to monitor treatment effect and liver function. Patients should not change their dose without medical advice, and dose reduction is generally required in patients with impaired kidney function.

Use this product before the expiry date stated on the packaging. Do not use the medicine if the expiry date has passed.

• Abdominal pain, nausea, or indigestion
• Headache
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Muscle pain or weakness
• Mild decrease in kidney function markers

• Known hypersensitivity to fenofibrate or any component of the formulation
• Severe kidney impairment, including patients on dialysis
• Active liver disease, including primary biliary cirrhosis
• Known gallbladder disease
• Pancreatitis unrelated to severe hypertriglyceridaemia

• Combining with a statin may increase the risk of muscle-related side effects, including a rare but serious condition called rhabdomyolysis – this combination should only be used under specialist supervision
• Warfarin and other blood-thinning medicines may have their effect enhanced by fenofibrate, requiring closer monitoring of blood clotting tests
• Ciclosporin may increase the risk of kidney problems when combined with fenofibrate
• Bile acid-binding resins (such as cholestyramine) may reduce fenofibrate absorption if taken at the same time – space doses apart if using both

• Take your tablet at the same time each day to build a consistent routine
• Attend scheduled blood tests to monitor lipid levels, liver function, and kidney function
• Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness to your doctor promptly, especially if you are also taking a statin
